.) 2003 Dodge Neon SRT4 (230HP) – When I hear the words “Dodge Neon” I can’t help but think of a cheap, poorly built, econo-box of the 90’s and early 2000’s. However, the audacious engineers over at PVO tuner group heavily modified the neon to be fast and actually look kind of cool. Introducing the Dodge Neon SRT-4. With a featherlight 2900 pounds, 230 horsepower, and a gutsy 250 pound feet of torque, the neon propelled from 0-60 in only 5.6 seconds. Along with a top speed of 150+ mph, the SRT Neon is a true sports sedan contender.
.) 2006 Chevy Impala SS (303HP)– Ahhh American V8 rumble. The Chevy Impala SS took a run of the mill family sedan and stuffed it with a classic 5.3 liter V8. The SS created 303 horsepower and 323 pound feet of torque. The main downsides were the hefty weight (3700 pounds) and a lethargic 4-speed automatic transmission. However, we are extremely grateful that GM decided to produce a V8 powered family sedan.
.) 2006 Dodge Magnum SRT8 (425HP) – Wow, another unconventionally fast car of the 2000’s! Upon first glance of the Dodge Magnum, one might assume it is a traditional and affordable family wagon. Yet again Dodge raised the bar with a 6.1 liter V8 that cranks out 425 horsepower. 0-60 happens in only 5.1 seconds and the power is sent to the wheels via a 5-speed automatic transmission (sigh).
.) 2017 Ford Fusion SportĀ (325HP) – Ever wonder what happens when you take a twin turbo V6 from an F-150 and put it into a family sedan? Well look no further than the 2017 Ford Fusion Sport. With 380 lb-feet of torque, the Fusion Sport will hit 60 miles per hour in only 5.1 seconds. This car is also a super comfortable and a well appointed highway cruiser.
.) 2001 Ford F-150 SVT Lightning (380 HP) – Looking back at the early 2000’s most vehicles were rather lack luster in the appearance and performance department. Luckily, Ford had the drive to amplify its generic F-150 all around! Thanks to an Eaton-supercharged, 5.4 liter V8 and sport suspension, the SVT Lightning was a shockingly fast truck even by todays standards. 0-60 only took 5.4 seconds.
SO what are some unexpectedly fast cars you can think of?
